Apr 06, 2011 – Travel with Portuguese language instructor Maria Oliveira to the Azores and immerse yourself in the Portuguese language and culture.  Maria Oliveira Language Learning Center is organizing a three-week Portuguese language immersion program for July 2011.  Students will attend language classes at Escola Profissional das Velas from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. four days per week.  Afternoons and weekends are reserved for sightseeing, tours of the Island of São Jorge, visits to Pico, Faial, and Terceira and much more. Students will be able to practice their newly learned skills with local tour guides and residents. Maria Oliveira, your instructor, is a native of Velas, São Jorge.

The package price for 20 days in the Azores is just €2.220,00 euros (double occupancy) and €2.690,00 euros (singleoccupancy).  The price includes transfers from and to the airports, accommodations, classes (16 hours of instruction), class materials (three books and six CDs), three cruises between the four islands, and an inland tour of each island. Maria Oliveira, owner of Maria Oliveira Language Learning Center, was educated in Portugal, the U.S. Mexico and Madrid, Spain. She has a B.A. in Portuguese and Spanish and an M.A. in Spanish from California State University, Sacramento. She is also a credentialed instructor for California Community Colleges and has extensive teaching experience in high schools, adult education, community colleges, and in the UC system. Maria is also Director of the Maria Oliveira Language Learning Center in Pinole, California, which offers courses in Portuguese, Spanish, French, Mandarin, and English for non-native speakers.

As a language program specialist, she develops conversational and technical educational materials which consist of CDs, workbooks, and online courses that allow anyone to learn to speak Portuguese or Spanish on their own. Being a most enthusiastic instructor who loves teaching, Maria makes sure that her students learn. While they are learning, they enjoy and gain an appreciation for the language and the culture.

Maria has issued two CD's entitled European Portuguese Vocabulary Volume 1 and European Portuguese Vocabulary Volume 2, which are two courses designed for convenient self-study in preparation for the July language immersion trip to the Azores. They are useful, too, for augmenting any ongoing Portuguese language studies.

An Open House will be conducted at the Maria Oliveira Language Learning Center on April 16, 2011, from 3:00 P.M to 6:00 P.M. Questions about the Azores trip, and about any programs offered at the Center, will be addressed. This is a free event open to any interested language learner, but anyone planning to attend should make a reservation.
